Frequently Asked Questions About Physical Therapy in Bowie
Do I need a referral to start physical therapy in Maryland?
Maryland offers direct access for physical therapy, meaning many patients can begin treatment without a physician referral. Some insurance plans may still require one, and our team can help verify that before your first visit.
Can physical therapy help prevent surgery?
In many cases, physical therapy can reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore strength enough to help patients avoid surgery altogether. Early treatment often leads to better long-term outcomes and may reduce the need for more invasive procedures.
What should I expect during my first physical therapy appointment?
Your first visit includes a one-on-one evaluation with a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy. We assess movement, strength, mobility, pain patterns, and daily limitations before creating a personalized treatment plan built around your goals.
Do you offer one-on-one physical therapy sessions in Bowie?
Yes. Every patient receives individualized care focused on their specific condition, goals, and lifestyle. Our therapists work closely with patients throughout each session to ensure treatment remains personalized and effective.
Can physical therapy help with dizziness or balance problems?
Yes. Many patients visit our Bowie clinic for help with vertigo, dizziness, balance deficits, and fall prevention. Our team uses specialized techniques and movement-based rehabilitation to improve stability and confidence with daily activities.
Is physical therapy helpful for chronic pain?
Physical therapy can be highly effective for chronic pain by addressing underlying movement dysfunction, muscle imbalances, joint restrictions, and mobility limitations. Treatment focuses on improving function while reducing reliance on medications or temporary solutions.
What should I wear to physical therapy?
Comfortable clothing that allows easy movement is recommended. Depending on the area being treated, athletic or loose-fitting clothing may help your physical therapist better assess movement and mobility.
How do I schedule an appointment at the Bowie clinic?
Patients can request an appointment online or call our Bowie office directly to speak with a member of our team. We work to schedule new patients as quickly as possible so treatment can begin without unnecessary delays.
